I founded Veritas Coaching after several years working inside traditional tutoring environments and noticing the same pattern: students were getting more help, but they weren’t becoming more independent. Assignments were finished and scores improved, yet many students still didn’t feel confident approaching their work on their own. I experienced parts of that system myself as a student and later saw it again while working inside tutoring companies where the structure often rewards giving students more help rather than helping them need less of it.
My background studying psychology at Harvard and Oxford made me pay close attention to how students actually learn — how confidence develops, how habits form, and how easily dependence can replace real learning.
Many of the students who come to me have already worked with several tutors. Others are high-achieving students aiming for top colleges who have done everything “right” — strong grades, the right activities — and end up with applications that look like everyone else’s. In both cases, the work goes deeper: helping students think for themselves, solve problems creatively, and build something that isn’t just another version of the same formula.
My work as a writer and performer also shapes how I teach, helping me explain ideas in different ways and connect with different kinds of students. My practice is intentionally small so students receive real mentorship and thoughtful guidance. Because the goal of tutoring shouldn’t be more tutoring: the goal is independence.
